We are all waiting for summer, and how fun it is when it comes, and you already have a hat sewn. This hat is reversible, so it can be worn on both sides – like having two hats in one! One side is made of colorful cotton, which gives a playful and summery mood, and the other is made of solid pastel cotton, which looks soft, calm and easy to match with various clothing combinations.
Cutting out pattern pieces
Here are all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1 cm seam allowance for all seams.
Each piece is cut from two colors of fabric. In this case, we cut the details for the hat from lilac fabric and blue variegated fabric. By following the step-by-step video, you can sew a hat yourself from any fabric color you like.
Steps for sewing the summer hat
When all the pattern pieces are cut out and ready, follow the steps below to sew them together.
Step 1. In the first picture, we see the cut out hat details that need to be joined together. We use the same dimensions for the lilac cotton details. In this case, we cut part 2 from one piece of fabric, and part 3 from two. In part 2, we connect the sides on one side, and in part 3, we connect both sides, as we can see in photo 2. Then we connect the circle with the 2 parts on the narrower edge, as we see in the 3rd photo.
Step 2. The next step is to attach part 3 to part 2 (photo 1) and cut the fabric around it so that it is 1 mm away till the sewing thread (photo 2).
Do the same sewing process with another fabric, in our case, with lilac cotton. Sew the finishing seams on the outside of both hats, as shown in photo 3. Sew a decorative rose ribbon onto the lilac hat 2 cm from the edge.
Step 3. Now put in one hat into the other as shown in photo 1 and connect their edges (photo 2). Don’t forget to leave about 5 cm of unsewn space on each side when you turn the hat right side out.
Finally, sew a decorative stitch from the hat edge toward the middle (photo 3).
Thanks to the natural cotton fabric, the hat is light, breathable and comfortable, perfect for warm summer days. It protects from the sun, but does not weigh you down – ideal for everyday walks, as well as holidays or trips to nature.
