Backpack with one strap

This is a tutorial for cotton backpacks with one shoulder strap.

The highlight of the backpack is a colorful decorative strip on top, which connects the base of the bag with the lining and vertical 1mm stitches on the base.

The strip for the string is sewn to the top of the backpack. In addition, one more pocket is sewn to the lining inside the bag. The bottom is formed from the main details of the backpack.

Materials

To make this nice cotton backpack with one shoulder strap you will need :

  • Cotton fabric 100 cm x 45 cm
  • Lining 70 cm x 40 cm
  • Mottled cotton tape 70 cm x 7 cm
  • Gray string 1 m
  • Metal lock strip stopper 1 pcs
  • The metal string ends 2 pcs
  • Metal adjustable buckle for the backpack strap 3 cm X 2 cm
  • Sewing thread No. 120

The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the backpack with one shoulder strap.

Cutting out pattern pieces

Here, you can find all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1.5 cm seam allowance for all seams.

The photo below shows the numbered pieces of the pattern. The numbers correspond to the cut-out pieces in the following images. In total, you will cut out six different shapes.

  1. Backpack base (1 pcs)
  2. A colorful decorative strip on top connects the bag’s base with the lining (1 pcs)
  3. Lining (1 pcs)
  4. Strip for put through string (1 pcs)
  5. Strips for a buckle for the belt adjustment (1 pcs)
  6. Backpack shoulder strap (1 pcs)

Steps for sewing the cotton backpack

Step 1. On the main parts, sew 1 mm stitches vertically every 3 cm.

Step 2. Connect the main detail backpack sides and form the bottom from the main parts of the backpack.

Step 3. Sew on a shoulder strap and strips with a metal buckle for the belt adjustment. Sew them on the base from the inside out.

Steg 4. Sew a lining with a decorative strip on the top and pocket. Connect the lining with the backpack base.

Steg 5. Sew a strip through a string on the base and the inside of the lining.

Step 6. Put through a string and fix a metal lock strip stopper and metal string ends.

Step 7. At the end sew the bottom of the lining and enjoy up with your good work.
