Beach bag

Don’t throw away your old clothes. Old, torn jeans can help you create unique combinations. We combine old jeans clippings with linen fabric to get a great beach bag. This bag is convenient because it holds a lot of things and has many pockets for smaller items.

Materials

To make this comfortable beach bag you will need:

  • Linen fabric 100 cm x 50 cm
  • Lining fabric 100 cm x 50 cm
  • Thin iron-on fleece interfacing 800 cm x 40cm
  • Old greenish jeans
  • Light gray and dark gray threads no. 100

Cutting out pattern pieces

The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the beach bag.

Here are all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1.5 cm seam allowance for all seams.

The photo below shows the numbered pieces of the pattern. In total, you will cut out five different shapes.

  1. Bag base made of linen fabric, 2 pcs.
  2. Bag side cut out from jeans, 2 pcs.
  3. Bag bottom cut from jeans, 1 pc.
  4. Bag the top to which the handles will connect, cut from jeans, 4 pcs.
  5. Handles of the bag, 2 pcs.

Steps for sewing the beach bag

When all the pattern pieces are cut out and ready, follow the steps below to sew them together.

Step 1. Cut the linen fabric to size (detail no. 1) and iron it with thin iron-on fleece interfacing.

Sew pockets cut from jeans on the linen fabric. One larger pocket will be on one side of the bag and two smaller ones on the other.

Step 2. Now sew bag straps. Place a denim strip (detail no. 5) on a linen strip 8 cm x 50 cm. Then fold the edges of the linen fabric and sew them to the denim strip as shown in the picture below with the red dotted line. You need to sew two belts in total.

Step 3. Sew the ends of the straps between the two strips (detail no. 4) and sew one edge of the strap to the linen with pockets. Do the same with the other strap.

Step 4. Sew the denim edges to the linen base as shown in the picture below, and connect them with another linen fabric with a pocket.

Step 5. Sew the bottom to the bag as shown in the picture.

Sew a pocket from denim ribbon and linen fabric, the size of which you can decide yourself. Then join the sides of the lining and sew.

Step 6. Turn the bag so that the wrong side is outside. Insert the lining into the bag and sew it on top as shown with the clasps. Turn it over again so that the right side of the bag is on the outside.

Now, all you have to do is sew the bottom, and a decorative stitch at the top of the bag, and another stitch 1.5 cm below.

Pack a towel, a book, and sunglasses, and go relax by the sea.
