To make these cute Valentine’s surprise bags you will need:
- 4 colors of cotton the biggest 36 cm x 18 cm
- Striped cotton fabric 57 cm x 25 cm
- Polyester felt red colors 20 cm x 6 cm
- Gray 3 mm wide rope 160 cm
- Gray plastic lock adjuster for a string 4 pcs
- Red and light gray threads no. 120

The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the Valentine’s surprise bags.
Cutting out pattern pieces
Here are all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. The number 3 is marked on the ribbon sewn to the middle of the bag. A heart made of red fabric is also sewn to it.
If not indicated otherwise, use a 1 cm seam allowance for all seams.

The main part of the bag is marked with the number 1. The top of the bag, marked with the number 2, is for threading the string. The number 3 is marked on the ribbon sewn to the middle of the bag. A heart made of red felt is also sewn to it.
The bags are in descending order of size. The smallest fifth bag is the most difficult to sew, so you can decide its size and shape yourself. A small box can be used instead of this bag.

Steps for sewing the Valentine’s surprise bags
When all the pattern pieces are cut out and ready, follow the steps below to sew them together.
Step 1. Cut out all four bag details. Cut out hearts from red felt to fit on the ribbon marked no. 3 and sew them onto it.

Step 2. Sew the ribbon with the heart in the middle onto the main bag detail no. 1.
Then sew the edges from the right sides as shown in the picture with the blue line. Trim the edge so that there is about 2 mm of edge left before the seam. Turn the bag inside out and sew the edges again.

Step 3. Sew both bottom edges of the bag as shown in the green line in the picture. The green ball shows the other side of the bottom of the bag where you need to sew the same way. We do this so that the basket has a square bottom and stands stably.

Step 4. Sew the edges of the details marked No. 2. Sew one edge of the ribbon onto the main detail ( no. 1 ) at the top, fold it over, and sew it from the right side to create a hole for the string.

Step 5. Sew the ribbon through the middle again (blue line). You need to put through the string where the blue dots are marked.

Now, all you have to do is put a plastic fastener on the string, and your job is done.
Stack the bags inside each other and give them to your loved one. Remember to put the surprise gift in the smallest bag or box.
