Here, you will find a tutorial on how to sew a pillow with a beautiful heart in the middle. The pillow is made of dark denim, and the heart is made of two-tone cotton fabric. It is a sofa decoration.
Materials
To make this cute pillow with a heart you will need:
- Denim fabric 95 cm x 43 cm
- Light gray cotton fabric 50 cm x 25 cm
- Red cotton fabric 36 cm x 25 cm
- Lining fabric 30 cm x 30 cm
- Velcro tape 15 cm
- Red, black, and gray sewing thread no. 120
The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the pillow with a heart.
Cutting out pattern pieces
Here, you can find all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1.5 cm seam allowance for all seams. An extra 4 cm was added to one edge of the denim fabric to form a seam for sewing the Velcro tape.
The photo below shows the pattern’s numbered pieces. You will cut out five different shapes in total.
- Denim pillowcase.
- Light gray cotton fabric base for the heart.
- Red stripes cut from cotton fabric 14 pcs.
- Lining fabric.
- Indicates the dimensions of the heart on the pillow.
Steps for sewing the pillow with a heart
Step 1. First, let’s sew the fabric we will use for the heart decoration. Draw horizontal lines every 3 cm on the light gray cotton fabric.
Fold the red cotton strips (no. 3) in half and smooth them out. Place these strips on the scratched lines and sew as shown in the picture below. Then fold the red strip to the front and sew the edge of the gray fabric. Sew all the strips in this way.
Step 2. Scratch a heart on the lining fabric according to the dimensions of drawing no. 5 and sew it onto the denim fabric. Cut out the inner side of the heart about 5 mm from the seam and cut around it as shown in the picture with yellow dashes.
Step 3. Turn the lining to the other side of the denim fabric and sew the hearts along the edge as shown in the picture. Then place this piece of denim on top of the decorative cotton fabric we sewed at the beginning and sew them together along the edge of the heart.
Step 4. Sew the pillow, leaving one side unsewn. Sew five Velcro tape on the folded edges to the unsewn side. The strips are 3 cm long.
