This hat is for a 2-3 year old girl with a head circumference of about 53 cm. It is made of two different fabrics: plain gray cotton and fabric with pastel grayish-greenish flowers. The combination of fabric colors creates a playful look.
Materials
To make this cute dress for girls you will need:
- One-color cotton fabric 70 cm x 30 cm.
- Bright-colored cotton fabric 55 cm x 40 cm.
- Iron-On adhesive interfacing fabric 65 cm x 17 cm.
- Sewing thread gray 120 no.
The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the hat for girls.
Cutting out pattern pieces
Here are all the pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1 cm seam allowance for all seams. You will cut out two different shapes in total.
According to the pattern pieces mark no. 1, cut out 10 pieces from the gray material. We also cut 5 pieces from Iron-On adhesive interfacing fabric. The pattern piece marked no. 2 is the hat brim and we will cut 2 pieces from the colorful fabric. We also cut 1 piece from Iron-On adhesive interfacing fabric.
Steps for sewing the hat for girls
Step 1. Iron-On adhesive interfacing fabric is smooth to cotton fabric details with an iron. We have five pieces of gray fabric and one hat brim clipping connected to the Iron-on fabric.
Step 2. Sew the two pieces of colorful fabric together along the outer edge of the circle. Turn the right side out and sew along the edge. To make the brim of the hat look nice, make a few finishing stitches every 5 mm towards the middle.
Step 3. I sewed together five pieces of gray fabric and five pieces of aligned gray fabric into a pile andgot two hats. One cap will be the outer one and the other the inner one.
Step 4. Sew one hat to the inside edge of the hat brim as shown in the picture.
Step 5. Place these two connected parts into the other part of the hat and connect them, leaving about 5 cm of unsewn hole. Turn the hat right side out through this hole and sew the hole.
Step 6. Sew a 6 cm wide and 13 cm long bow tie and a 3 cm wide and 1 m long ribbon. String the bow tie onto the ribbon.
Surround a ribbon on your hat. With this band, you can adjust your hat so that it fits snugly on a girl’s head and is not blown away by the wind. You can change the colors of the bow tie and ribbon fabric at your discretion.
