Green basket

Here’s a tutorial on how to sew the green basket. The basket is small and designed to hold small items. It is made of two different fabrics, so the inside and outside of the basket differ.

Materials

To make this cute green basket you will need:

  • Green checked cotton cotton fabric 30 cm x 30 cm
  • Linen fabric 31 cm x 31 cm
  • Thin polyester wadding fabric 31 cm x 31 cm
  • Sewing thread no. 120
  • Linen decorative ribbon 50 cm

The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing the green basket.

Cutting out pattern pieces

All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 1 cm seam allowance for all seams. In total, you will cut out three shapes. The linen fabric and polyester wading are connected, so their dimensions are one cm larger than the dimensions of the green checkered fabric.

Steps for sewing the kitchen gloves

When all the pattern pieces are cut out and ready, please follow the steps below to sew them together.

Step 1. Join the wading fabric and the lining and sew them together using the stitched threads, as shown in the photo. Then, put it together with the green checkered fabric and sew the two sides as shown in the photo with the red line. Leave a 4-5 cm gap unsewn on one side, marked with a black line.

Step 2. Place these two sewn fabric stitches together, as shown in the first picture. Cut out squares with a diameter of 7 cm in the corners.

Then, you need to spread the edges of the fabric marked with red dots to the sides and connect the edges of the fabric marked with black dots to each other.

Step 3. Once you have sewn all four corners, turn the fabric right side out over the 4-5 cm gap that we left unsewn.

Step 4. Put in order the fabrics in the box as shown in the photo. The green checkered fabric will be on the outside of the box and the linen fabric will be on the inside of the box. Sew a decorative ribbon around the top edge of the box.

Step 5. Pin all four corners and sew the edges where the red line is shown in the photo. This will give the box a stable, square shape.

The box is small, only 13 cm x 8 cm, but it is convenient for storing small items and looks beautiful when placed on a table or shelf. You can also change the dimensions of the box. Good luck.
