Here you will find a tutorial on sewing flower and moon appliques on denim fabric. Appliques can be used to sew a pillow, backpack, handbag, or clothing.
They are easy to sew for any beginner.
Materials
To make these beautiful flower and moon appliques, you will need :
- Denim fabric 25 cm X 25 cm 2 pcs
- Light blue cotton fabric 25 cm x 25 cm 1 pcs
- Yellow cotton fabric 25 cm x 25 cm 1 pcs
- About 3 m of 1 cm wide cut denim strips
- Black, yellow, and light blue sewing thread no. 120
Cutting out pattern pieces
The dimensions of the flower and moon are indicated at the drawing’s bottom. The yellow drawing shows the dimensions of the center of the flower and its 8 petals, which you should draw on a piece of denim fabric.
The blue details show the dimensions of the moon and star, which need to be drawn on another piece of denim.
Steps for sewing flower and moon appliques
Step 1. In the photo below, we see two fabrics, a light blue cotton 25 cm x 25 cm and a denim 25 cm x 25 cm. A flower is cut out of the denim according to the dimensions given above. Place both fabrics on top of each other and sew the outline of the flower with black thread.
Step 2. Cut a 1 cm wide strip and pull the longitudinal threads out of the strip on both sides, as shown in the photo. Use this strip to sew the edge petals of the flower and the center circle. Sew the ribbon using yellow thread.
Step 3. In the photo below, we see two fabrics, a yellow cotton 25 cm x 25 cm and a denim 25 cm x 25 cm. A moon and star are cut out of the denim according to the dimensions given above. Place both fabrics on top of each other and sew the outline of the moon and star with black thread.
Step 4. Cut a 1 cm wide strip and pull the longitudinal threads out of the strip on both sides, as shown in the photo. Use this ribbon to sew the edge of the moon and star. Sew the ribbon using light blue thread.
