Here’s a tutorial on how to sew the fabric coasters. They are easy and quick to sew.
Materials
To make these cute fabric coasters, you will need:
- Variegated cotton fabric 26 cm x 20 cm
- Blue cotton fabric 26 cm x 17 cm
- Lilac cotton fabric 26 cm x 30 cm
- Light gray threads no. 120
- Grey Bias edging tape 1 m
The instructions below provide the measurements for cutting out pattern pieces and the main steps for sewing these fabric coasters.
Cutting out pattern pieces
Here, you can find all these pattern pieces and their dimensions. All dimensions are shown with sewing allowances. If not indicated otherwise, use a 0.5 cm seam allowance for all seams.
Steps for sewing the denim backpack
When all the pattern pieces are cut out and ready, follow the steps below to sew them together.
Step 1. Cut out fabric pieces according to the dimensions given: 3 circles and 4 hearts.
Step 2. Place the heart cutouts together as shown in the picture. Then sew the hearts together and cut around them as shown by the red lines in the picture. Don’t forget to leave a 3 cm unsewn space so you can turn the hearts inside out.
Step 3. Turn the hearts out and iron them. Place the hearts, with the colored side facing up, on the blue and lilac fabric in the middle of the circle and sew.
Step 4. The last step will be to sew a gray edging around the napkin.
Since we didn’t have enough gray edging for the variegated fabric napkin, we had to improvise…and cut it out of lilac fabric. So we need to have more lilac fabric.
You can make fabric napkins in any size. Just add or subtract a few cm to the dimensions. These napkins will be perfect as a coaster for a cup, saucer, or flower vase.
